An Open Space, Historic, Agricultural, & Natural Resource Preservation Plan
Throughout the comprehensive planning process, residents emphasized the need to preserve our community character and the Township's valuable resources. South Whitehall Landscapes is an extension of the Township Comprehensive Plan and a reaffirmed commitment to preserving the heritage, character, and environment of South Whitehall. This plan aims to identify the specific resources that are special in the Township and develop integrated preservation strategies to protect them. Protecting our agricultural, historic, and natural resources is a great way to preserve what's important in the Township, but when these features blend together it makes this area truly unique.
In June 2023, South Whitehall Community Development Department kicked off the South Whitehall Landscapes planning process, to develop an Open Space, Historic, Agricultural, and Natural Resources Preservation Plan for the Township. Preservation plans around these topics were identified as a top priority following the adoption of the 2023 Township Comprehensive Plan.
Over the second half of 2023, the project team held five public workshop meetings, conducted multiple surveys, and interviewed numerous experts in the of agriculture, natural resource conservation, and historic preservation. This information has now been summarized into the South Whitehall Landscapes plan, including specific goals and actions to support preservation of each identified resource category.
The 2024 South Whitehall Landscapes Plan was adopted on September 18, 2024. To view the final plan, please click the link below:
