Roadways within the township are mechanically cleaned with an Elgin Street Sweeper. Although there is no set sweeping schedule, all streets within the township are cleaned quarterly. The times at which you might expect to see the street sweeper operating are as follows:

• In the fall after the leaf collection program has been completed.
• In the spring after winter has passed.
• During the summer months.
• On an as needed basis due to adverse weather conditions or citizen requests.

The purpose of the street cleaning program is not only to keep the streets within the township clean and the neighborhood an attractive place to live, but to also remove any harmful materials which during a heavy rain would be carried into the storm sewer system, which in turn would eventually reach the drinking water supply for the City of Allentown.
