Field Trip Frenzy!

Looking for a way to make the winter holiday break exciting for your 6 to 12 year olds? Well look no further! Give the gift of a fun experience during the holidays! Each of these three days includes a fun trip to an attraction or activity for them to enjoy!

Registration forms and trip descriptions are available in the top right forms tab on this page. Fees may be submitted via cash or check (made out to South Whitehall Township) during the business hours of 8:00am-4:00pm.

There will also be gradual Facebook announcements to release the details, progress of the trip, and maybe even photos/videos so don’t forget to ‘like’ our Facebook page called South Whitehall Township Parks and Recreation in order to get the most up to date information and notifications!

Wednesday, December 26

8:15am–5:00pm

Dutch Apple Theater

The kids will gather at Covered Bridge Park at 8:15am to play on the playground as everyone arrives. They will board the bus and leave for the theater by 8:45am. The drive is anywhere between an hour and fifteen hour and forty five minutes so if all are accounted for before 8:45am then the bus will be loaded and on its way early. Upon arrival at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater the kids will participate in a Theater Workshop Titled – Improve Olympics. In this workshop the kids will participate in improvisational theater games From 10:30am-11:30am. At 11:30am the group will eat lunch (included in the fee), the buffet menu for the day is able to be found on the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater website closer to the event date. Then upon completion of Lunch and bathroom breaks the group will be seated for the LIVE showing of ‘A Christmas Carol’. A season favorite! The synopsis of this play: Even for a grumpy old miser like Ebenezer Scrooge, it’s never too late to change. But when he’s visited by three ghosts – Past, Present, and Future – he discovers his selfish ways and greets Christmas morning with a new found happiness, and through the enduring love of Tiny Tim, learns to spread goodwill and be happy.The average run-time of this play is 2 hours. Once it is finished the group will board the bus and head back to Covered Bridge Park where the kids will play on the playground until they are picked up at 5:00pm.

Thursday, December 27

9:30am-4:30pm

Colebrookdale Railroad : Snowflake Special

Dropping off the kids at 9:30 in Covered Bridge Park to gather and play is easy and fun for them. At 10:00am the group will be on the bus and en route to the Cedar Beach Destination Playground for some outdoor fun and exercise. At 11:15 the group will board the bus and drive to the train station. This is anywhere between a 50 minute and an hour and 15 minute drive. When the bus is parked at the train station the kids will enjoy their packed lunch that they brought with them while the group is checked in. The train ride is to begin at 1:00pm and the expedition that they will enjoy is called the Snowflake Special. In This Special the kids will join us in a farewell to the year and watch the snowflakes on a cold, clear winter’s afternoon as the train winds its way through the Secret Valley. Each child will enjoy the spectacular scenery in the warmth of the Edwardian-era coaches and sip a cup of sparkling cider on board! The train ride is 2 hours round trip and should pull into the station at 3:00pm. The group will board the bus and head back to Covered Bridge Park for playground play and to be picked up by their parents at 4:00pm.

Friday, December 18

Adventure Aquarium

An early start to this trip is necessary, so drop the kids at Covered Bridge Park fat 7:00am for a quick play on the playground before they board the bus. Once the group is gathered and the bus is boarded, we will be on our way to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ! The trip is an estimated 2 hour drive and we are hopeful that we will arrive at around 9:30am when the facility opens! The Aquarium is home to the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast, including the only great hammerhead shark on exhibit in the United States, the only aquarium in the world to exhibit hippos, one of only six facilities in the US to have Little Blue penguins as permanent residents and exhibits the longest Shark Bridge in the world, a unique V-shaped rope suspension bridge just inches over Shark Realm. The group will spit up into groups of 10 kids to explore and see the World’s Tallest Underwater Christmas Tree, Snow Shower Dance Parties and more. Children can share their wishes with Scuba Santa by dropping their personalized letters in a special mailbox in Ocean Realm. At 11:45am the group will eat a packed lunch that they bring with them. They will have more time to explore then all gather to catch the 2:00pm movie featuring ‘Penguins 3D’. Once the film is over the group will make their way back down to the lobby and head out to the bus. We are hopeful to return to Covered Bridge Park by 5:00pm to be picked up!
